Turning Targets
In 2004, the Sierra Vista Company acquired a set of six
"turning targets." The target system is electronically timed, and is
pneumatically operated. The targets are initially deployed, turned 90 degrees
away from the shooter. Then, depending on the time required for the particular
stage, the targets will "turn," so that they face the shooter for the prescribed
time. They will then turn away again, preventing any "late" shots from being
scored. This system requires greater skills in the draw, and in the target
acquisition, "sight picture, and trigger pull. Targets used are standard TQ-15
silhouettes, as required by Arizona Police Officer Standardized Training (POST)
Board standards. Distances and time intervals are in accordance with POST
requirements.
