In 2001, Our Centennial Year: the Arizona House of Representatives Speaks . . .
A
CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
HONORING
THE ARIZONA RANGERS FOR OUTSTANDING SERVICE TO THE STATE OF ARIZONA.
Whereas, in 1901, Arizona's
Territorial Legislature approved a bill organizing and funding the Arizona
Rangers to bring order to a territory that was known as lawless and bloody. For
eight years, one hundred seven men served as Rangers, working diligently to free
the territory from its outlaw image and to make it an acceptable place to live.
Though the Rangers disbanded in 1909, their work contributed greatly to making
Arizona welcome as the forty-eighth state of the nation in 1912; and
Whereas, in 1957, the Arizona
Rangers were formally re-established through the efforts of seven of the
original Arizona Rangers and several other notable Arizonans. Since then, this
nonpaid, nonprofit community service organization has provided a commendable
record of assistance and support to law enforcement, youth and community
programs throughout the state. Over the years, approximately three thousand men
and women have given countless hours of their time, energy and efforts to raise
money for youth groups and charities. Their volunteer efforts have included
providing crowd and traffic control at various public events, assisting in
searches for missing individuals and providing security and assistance at crime
scenes and for DUI task forces. Through their many volunteer hours of service,
the Arizona Rangers have contributed greatly to the well-being of the state and
have saved Arizona taxpayers thousands of dollars; and
Whereas, it is indeed fitting and
proper that we honor the outstanding contributions of the many Arizona Rangers
over the years, including the current eleven Arizona Ranger companies in the
state. The Arizona Rangers are a valuable and important part of the historical
heritage of this state, and we commend Arizona Rangers, past and present, for
their selfless and honorable service to the citizens of this state.
Therefore
Be it resolved by the House of
Representatives of the State of Arizona, the Senate concurring:
1. That the Members of the
Legislature of the State of Arizona recognize the Arizona Rangers for their
outstanding record of service to the state.
2. That the Secretary of State
transmit copies of this Resolution to the eleven Arizona Ranger companies and to
the news media of Arizona.
